The State of the Central Coast Summit, hosted in Fall Quarter 2026, will bring together community members, leaders, and changemakers from across the region for a timely and forward-looking conversation about the issues shaping our collective future. Convened by the UCSB Blum Center as part of its Central Coast Regional Equity Initiative, the summit will create space to reflect on where the region stands today—and where we hope to go next. This gathering is designed to be inclusive and accessible, welcoming voices from across the Central Coast and from all walks of life.
The Central Coast Regional Equity Initiative at the UCSB Blum Center focuses on strengthening partnerships between the university and the broader community to advance equitable solutions to the region’s most pressing challenges. Grounded in collaboration and shared learning, the initiative works across sectors to better understand structural barriers and identify opportunities for meaningful, community-informed change. The summit is a key expression of that mission: a space to connect research, lived experience, and public leadership in service of the common good.
Throughout the convening, participants will explore critical themes including labor, housing affordability, environmental sustainability, healthcare access, and other urgent issues affecting communities across the Central Coast. Rather than a traditional academic conference, the State of the Central Coast Summit is designed as an interactive forum—bringing together nonprofit organizations, local government representatives, campus partners, workers, advocates, and residents to assess current realities and exchange ideas. By gathering diverse stakeholders in one room, the summit aims to spark dialogue, deepen understanding, and inspire collaborative action for a more just and resilient region.
