Voter turnout
White voters made up 69 percent of people who cast ballots in the 2020 presidential election on the Central Coast. People of color, who make up a growing share of the region’s population, were just under a third of voters. The gap between who lives here and who votes influences which communities’ needs get prioritized in local decision-making. Closing the gap requires understanding and addressing the barriers that keep some communities from participating in elections at the same rates as others.
